Jolisa, Age 10; Ailed, Age 8; Enrique, Age 10
Winter Snow

Snow falls from the sky
The snow is as white as chalk
Pretty as a lamb

Winter jackets warm
Gloves, hats, boots to name a few
Keeping body warm

Making a snowman
Sledding, snowboarding on hills
What a fun filled day

Gladys, Age 9
The Weirdest Hershey Bear

He was born as a chocolate
and shaped as a bear.

He’s a red striped bear
With his l’il cool mohawk hair.

He’s cute and really crazy.
He’s sleepy and extremely lazy.

His tail is really small and belly really big.
His ears are wiggly
and he laughs like a pig.

He is really fat
and soft as a cat.
He only likes one book
and is a good cook.

Johlena, Age 10
Just Be You

You don’t have to be rich or smart.
You might even be good at art.

You don’t have to wear cute clothes too.
Nobody’s perfect, not me or you.

Don’t pretend, just be my friend.
All you have to do is be you!

Nayeli, Age 10
ROY G BIV

Red tastes like apples
Red looks like cherries

Orange tastes like orange juice
Orange looks like the leaves from fall

Yellow smells like the summer breeze
Yellow tastes like bananas
Yellow looks like the sun

Green tastes like green beans
Green looks like my brother cutting the grass

Blue looks like the sky
Blue tastes like blue raspberry
Blue moves like the ocean

Indigo tastes like blueberries
Indigo looks like flowers

Violet tastes like grapes
Violet looks like my book bag

Stacy, Age 11
Colors

Red like an apple that is sweet.
Pink like a flamingo that is long and skinny.
Orange like a basketball that is bouncing.
Green like the spiky grass.
Gray like an old man’s hair.
Yellow like the bright sun.
Gold like my warm, winter jacket.
White like the shiny board.

I see many colors everyday!

Citlali, Age 9
My Color Blue

It sounds like the lake moving.
It tastes like a blueberry.
It smells like flower.
It looks like water.
It feels like birds.
It moves like waves.

Maria, Age 9
Roses

Roses look like this
they are colorful
beautiful and colorful.
Every time I see one
I feel like picking it
up but at the same
time I think if I take it no one
is going to enjoy it.

Ignacio, Age 9
Good Morning

Tap tap tap
My parents walk quietly, but sometimes I can hear them
FLASH!!
When they turn on the light my eyes burn
Vwoosh Vwoosh
I put on my clothes quick so I may write this very poem
Stomp Stomp
I run quickly to the living room
Tsss Tsss
I write the poem. I’m done!
YAY
I did it!
I am as fast as a cheetah.
I am a speedy poet.

Justin, Age 10
Peace

I wish that
War ended
And there
Was more
Peace
In the world.
Children  everywhere
need care.
They need their
Moms and dads
For love.
Countries need to
Get together.
War needs to end.
Come on presidents!
We can do better!!

Edwin, Age 10
Star

I wish I was a star
To be high in the sky
Shining down on you
As you say goodnight

Alfredo, Age 10
I AM

I am an active monkey not a fast lion
I am a yellow sun flower not the red rose
I am the cold winter not the hot summer
I am a loud guitar not a silent cowbell
I am a cool Lamborghini not a mini van
I am a hot sunny day not a cold windy storm
I am the hot fire not the cold water
I am a bright red not dark blue
I am a happy play full person.

Pricilla, Age 10
I Am

I’m cute, smart, and sweet
Like a monkey
Swinging on a tree
I am like the converse shoe
So cuddly on my toes
Friday is fun days
So my cheeks became the color pink
When outside in the park

Brenda, Age 9
My Great Family

My mom is a sweet ghost.
My dad is a fast tiger.
My baby sister is a soft baby bear.
My sister is as bright as a dark blue sky.
My grandmother is a beautiful brown tree.
My grandfather is a tall giraffe.
My friend is a fuzzy puppy.
I am a sneaky spider.
My family is wonderful!

Eneida, Age 8
SCORES

Kicking the ball
Playing on the  field
Scoring goals!
Sweating in  my  shoes
Working hard
I was so so tired
Passed the ball.

Leylani, Age 9
Me

I’m really pretty.
I’m really nice to people.
I’m my own flower.

Fernando, Age 8
I Am From

I am from the sweet life of chocolate
I am from beautiful Mexico
and the United States

I am from the shiny houses of the world
I am from the beach and sweet lemonade

I am from the comedy movies
I am from candy land.

I am from the pepperoni and cheese pizza-yum
I am from the world of math—I love numbers

Alan, Age 8
I Am

I am from the shiny ball of soccer
I am from the world of sillybands
I am from the shiny bits of apples
I am from the smartness of science
I am from the shiny red color I like
I am from the pages of words
I am from 3rd grade
I am from the art made with paint
I am from the 8 years I am
I am Alan

Natalia, Age 9
I am from…

I am from the In-Styler that makes my hair straight.
I am a silly character from the book Junie B. Jones.
I am from the fruit mango because I am soft and sweet.
I am from a Quinceañera with a beautiful pink and blue dress.
I am from my mother’s cape because she is my super hero.
I am from my bed with my beautiful puppy Reina.
I am from God and la Santa Maria.
I am from my world.
I am from everything.

Imani, Age 10
M&M Delight

I am an M&M
The best I can be
I am the brightest color
You have ever seen
I can be stuffed with salty pretzels
Or a nut
But even if I’m plain
I can be as sweet as a candy cane
So use your brain
Make a choice
I won’t melt in your hand
Just in your mouth

Brayan, Age 9
Planets

Planets of different colors in space
With a slow song.
Shiny stars all over me
Down and up,
And right to left…
I see a moon to the left,
And to the right,
A sun shining at me.

Joshua, Age 9
Space

In the black outer space
meteors  passing by
stars all around
and they are super bright.
Planets super big
and others small.
The sun is super bright.
It has a lot of colors
and it is super hot.

Alan, Age 9
A World Without the Sun

A world without the sun
Would be no fun
I would not see
The beautiful green trees
The trees would die
And take with them my air supply
I would not see the beautiful light
That is so super-duper bright

A world without the sun
Would not let me see
The beautiful blue sea
All around me

Lea, Age 11
Let It All Go

How can somebody you love
Bring so much pain like a tornado hitting?

How can somebody you love
Bring so much pain to you like a wound on your knee?

How can somebody you love bring so much pain
Causing tears like a waterfall full of lies?

How can somebody you love
Be so painful?

Alondra, Age 10
Delicious Lollipop

Delicious lollipop,
you taste so good.
I love you a lot,
instead of food.

I will eat you all day long,
even when I am sleeping at night.
You’re my best friend,
and our friendship will never end.

Eric, Age 9
Leaves

I like to rake leaves
Orange, red, brown, yellow, fun
Then jump inside them
Away the leaves will fly
Happy to have Fall

Isabel, Age 10
Flower, Flower

Flower, flower!
Great and big!
Happy colors!
Indigo, red, violet too!
Everything I wrote I love it too!

Jordan, age 11
Black

Black is my favorite color.
Black is as black as a cat.
Black may be death but to me it’s love.
Black may be goth but it’s really a color.
Black is on my fingers, black is on my toes.
Black is a bat, but it’s really a hat.
Black is beautiful, black is romantic.
Black is black and it is my favorite color.

Nadia, Age 10
Butterflies

Butterflies make me feel happy.
They are colorful and pretty.
They flutter their wings to fly through the air.
They fly through the air like they just don’t care.
Butterflies land on flowers to get some food to survive in nature.

Tatianna, Age 9
Seasons

I love snow it doesn’t
Make me glow. I love fall
It doesn’t make me draw.
I love spring it doesn’t
Make me scream.
I love summer it doesn’t
Make me be a bummer.

Bao, Age 9
Sunset

Sunset is beautiful.
The brightness and darkness come together
The color red and orange begin
The moon is getting brighter
So are the stars.
The sun is going West.
Down mountain and valley it went.
The sun is resting.
The moon comes out.
The sun is going to another hemisphere.
Peacefulness and night came and lullaby the people to sleep.

Britney, Age 10
Halloween

Dark like my shadow at night.
Candy as sweet as my sister.
Cold like a spooky witch.
Orange like a carved pumpkin.

Jack-o-lanterns are on.
I am so scared that my hair will turn blonde!
If you come with you will have to carry me through the haunted house.

Halloween is spooky like my brother sneaking up on me!!

Angela, Age 11
Myself

My hair is as black as the moon shining on the ocean.
My eyes are as brown as chocolate.

I am as strong as a bear.

Gladys, Age 10
Today My Name Is

Today my name is success
I feel like the wind and I’m going places
I pretend to cut the shield between me
and success

Yesterday my name was eagle
I heard the doors open and flew through
them with all my might
I found success and every possibility

Tomorrow my name will be determination
I will forget about fear
I will remember to think about the future

Fernando, Age 9
Today My Name Is

Today my name is sleepy
I feel like a turtle moving in super slow motion
I pretend I can’t move

Yesterday my name was hungry
I heard mom was cooking my favorite food
I heard pat, sshhh, and cracking sounds
I found food on the table and ate it

Tomorrow my name will be joyful
I will forget I left my homework at home

Roberto, Age 9
Roberto

I am like fire,
burning when my brother gets me mad.
I am helpful,
doing jobs for my mom.
I move swiftly,
like a cheetah on the soccer field.
I am the sunset.
Colors fade when I leave the room.
I am a shadow.
Unnoticeable.

Eric, Age 10
Eagles

Eagles-
Fast as a roller coaster,
Hungry as sharks,
Flying higher than a jet,
Vision like telescopes,
Wings as wide as a lunch table,
Claws as sharp as swords.
Watch out for eagles!

Daniel, Age 10
Sally

Silly Sally sat on a sack
Slurping Sweet Soda
With a striped straw

Adrian, Age 9

Delicious and chewy,

good for breakfast.
Where is my milk?

Josue, Age 10
Red vs Orange

Red
Everyone likes red.
It’s my favorite color.
apples
spaghetti
Spiderman
fast cars
Ironman
fall leaves
stripes on the US flag.
What’s not to love about red?

But orange?
Who likes orange?
It’s not a good color.
fire
fish
pumpkins
sweet potatoes
poison frogs
a mad chameleon
Orange is not a good color.

Xavier, Age 9
Sun and Moon

Sun
heat
hot
red

warms your car
swimming
shining light

Moon
gray
cold
round
nighttime
sleeping time
spooky sky
dark night.

Ilyana, Age 10
Noises in Puerto Rico

When I go to the beach I hear flip flop
When I go in the water I hear splish splash and the roar of the water
When I go down the street I hear cars going beep
When I go past the playground I hear kids laughing and kids talking
When I look up in the sky I hear chirp chirp
I like to go to Puerto Rico because it is hot and fun and I can see my family

Jasmine, Age 10
All About Me

My hair is as soft as silk
My teeth are as white as snow
My eyes sparkle like the stars at night
My nails are as pink as an eraser at the
bottom of my pencil
My smile is as bright as a diamond
My ears are as small as a bobby pin
My heart is as big as earth and beyond that!

Dayneliz, Age 10
Spring

Flowers are growing.
Everything is showing.
Spring is Beautiful

Butterflies are here.
It’s this time of year.
Spring is Beautiful

So the flowers will gain.
Spring is Beautiful

All the baby animals come out.
I want to scream and shout.
Spring is Beautiful

Winter is white and bright.
Colors make people feel good.

You are our heart Mother Nature.

David, Age 9
My Heart

My heart is like lava from the deep, deep volcano
It burns and it’s so hot
It reminds me of the time when I got burned by the oven
It makes me feel like hot fudge on ice cream.
I want to put more lava in my heart.

Mercedes, Age 9
My Voice

My voice is a clock ticking
It tells people it’s time to get off the streets
My voice is an encouraging person
It reminds people to take care of the Earth
My voice is a journey
It inspired my writing to be something discovered

Rebecca, age 10
A Falling Star

I saw a star that slides down the sky,
Blinding down south as I passed by
Too quick and too burning to hold,
Too lovely to become old or to be sold.
Good for only to make nice and beautiful wishes on…
And then forever to be gone.
