What is CityKicks?
CityKicks is an innovative soccer project that works with schools to engage youth ages 5-18 throughout the Milwaukee community.
Formed in 2011, CityKicks is a collaborative effort between the America SCORES Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Kickers Soccer Club. By aligning curricula, programs, and staff, CityKicks is well positioned to provide youth with soccer-based programming that will teach self-discipline, character development, and decision making skills necessary to maintain a healthy life-style.
Run by both America SCORES Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Kickers Soccer Club, which are approved Wellness Vendors through the Milwaukee Public School District, CityKicks runs multiple different programs during the afterschool hours and summer months. To date, CityKicks has introduced the sport of soccer to more than 1,000 children from schools, neighborhood centers, and camps hosted in community parks.
Vendor Information
CityKicks partners with urban schools to provide soccer-based youth-development programming that promotes healthy lifestyles, leadership, conflict resolution, and school and community engagement. Once-weekly co-ed sessions accommodate up to 30 students. Led by two certified soccer coaches, students will learn basic and intermediate soccer skills.
CityKicks sports-based youth development program offers youth a soccer experience where they learn and master soccer skills along with life skills in a safe, fun, and supportive environment. Led by a trained staff, CityKicks soccer coaches convey a consistent message of the importance of health in their soccer practices, act as role models for healthy living, and encourage healthy lifestyle behaviors for students.
The CityKicks program model is based off of America SCORES Milwaukee's soccer coach manual which is designed to bring attention to the physical and socio-physical development of each participant. Nearly all of the activities in the curriculum will increase a player’s fitness, but in addition, throughout all sections of the manual are “Health Tips” that are designed to bring health education into practice in an interactive and applicable way. Many of these tips help educate students to make healthy and safe choices throughout the school day as well as during their normal daily routines. Health lessons focus on healthy food choices and activities that increase physical health as well as performance on the soccer field and in the classroom.
What supplies/facilities are required by my school/organization?
CityKicks provides all equipment: popup goals, soccer balls, cones, whistles, pinnies, etc. Additionally, two staff will be present at each session. Your only requirement is to provide sufficient space to host soccer practices.
What ages or grades do you work with?
CityKicks has multiple curriculum that are tailored to various age groups. With this flexibility, our programs are available to youth ages 5-18, or kindergarten through high school.
What is the cost?
CityKicks hosts multiple different programs, with varying lengths and components. Our staff will work directly with you, your school or neighborhood center's schedule, and your budget.
