Dear Riley CLC Families,
(la información en español está abajo)
America SCORES Milwaukee is committed to ensuring the continued good health and welfare of the youth and families we serve, our staff, and partners within the community. Therefore, we are taking important and necessary steps to protect against the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. At this time, we will be suspending our afterschool programs at Riley until further notice.
We are equally concerned about the social and emotional wellbeing of the youth we serve during this time. To help you and your child learn during this time away from school, we have an academic resource called IXL Online Learning that all CLC youth already have access to. IXL is a comprehensive learning program offering unlimited math, language arts, and science practice across thousands of skills—all of which are aligned to state standards. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home, so they can use it while MPS is closed!
IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The program is adaptive and will adjust based on your child's demonstrated understanding of the material. All of your child's results will be saved, so you can monitor his or her progress anytime by clicking on Analytics. For on-the-go practice, you can download IXL's free tablet apps for iPad, Android, or Kindle and sign in with your child's username and password.
To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:

- Milwaukee Public Library – Library Now! -- http://mpl.org/librarynow/ -- Books, music, movies, magazines, games – all online! As a reminder, with Library Now!, MPS students have free Milwaukee Public Library access with their MPS student ID and password.
- Brainfuse’s MEET - Through the Milwaukee Public Library’s LibraryNow access, MPS students and teachers have access to Brainfuse’s MEET feature to help support students in the event face-to-face instruction is interrupted. While this may not address students’ access to computers and Wi-Fi, it may prove beneficial for many. Please read below for more information.
- From the Brainfuse team: As you are aware, an increasing number of schools and public institutions are closing, and many students are staying at home. In response, we have responded with several measures, including increased staffing and discussing with tutors the special educational circumstances that might arise during sessions.
- Additionally, we have created a social media graphic to highlight the ability of all our HelpNow users to study with classmates online with our MEET feature. MEET is an easy-to-use tool where patrons simply invite participants, choose a date and time, add a description (optional), and then create the study session. Sessions take place through the Brainfuse whiteboard.
- Here is a short video explaining how to use MEET. Please feel free to share this with your staff and patrons. If you prefer to download the video, click on details (upper right) and you will see the download link. https://www.screencast.com/t/HWlGriHfDek

NASA At Home
NASA is bringing the universe into living rooms to help families who are cooped up at home.
The space agency's website is offering dozens of science activities for children and adults.
Astronaut Nick Hague, who spent 204 days on the International Space Station, said he's using many of the techniques he learned in orbit to stay connected during social distancing.
"When I was on orbit, I'd do crossword puzzles with my boys over a video chat, and just being able to connect that way was such a huge emotional boost," Hague said. "It helped me prepare for the next day."
Tutorials, e-books, games and more can be found on the NASA at Home site.
